Street Lights, Poles, & Traffic Signals
0019_DSC_0749
An overhead electric light on Observatory Drive in Mt. Lookout. Overhead light poles such as this, while common in cities like New York and Chicago, are virtually unheard of here. With mostly overhead power lines in Cincinnati, it was (and still is) easier to just attach street lights to the utility poles. Unfortunately, aside from being less attractive, it also means that historical examples are less likely to survive. There's only two or three of these old poles here on Observatory Drive, and I've never seen anything like them anywhere else in the city. Note the small bracket on the pole just below the globe, it's for a worker to prop his ladder against the pole when the lamp needs changing.
