Cincinnati & Whitewater Canal aqueduct abutment on the west side of the I&O CIND, former Big Four, Great Miami River bridge in Cleves, looking west. The highway bridge is to the right. Note the two angled thrust blocks near ground level to support the angled wood posts from the aqueduct. The larger stone blocks above there are most likely infill from when the railroad was first built. The original bridge was only a single track, hence the stonework at the top under the steel cross beam. That original single track was set to the right side of the aqueduct structure, since that's where the trough was, and the towpath was on the left. The abutment was extended to the right with concrete, and also filled in on the left in 1914.
