B&O/CH&D - Baltimore & Ohio/Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton - CSX, Cincinnati Terminal Subdivision
0005_CHDStationback
An 1868 view of the CH&D terminal area with original station buildings, looking southeast. 6th Street runs along the back of these buildings, but it can barely be differentiated from the dirt ground, and Baymiller is at the far left, along the bright 4-story building with smoke coming out of the chimney. The long-lived passenger station at the corner of 5th and Baymiller can barely be seen at the top center, with the small cupola poking up behind other rooflines, opened in 1864. The building with the steep gable at the left is the original train shed for the passenger station, which was later replaced with simpler wooden canopies and platforms, as seen in the next photo. The original combined passenger and freight station from 1851, by this time relegated to freight duty, is the large building at right. The 3-story building with the fan window at the center is a newer freight house built at about the same time as the 1864 passenger station. Note the dual gauge tracks and wood-burning locomotives.
