IR&T - Interurban Railway & Terminal Company
0009_b37_f50_n002
Historic photo of the CG&P on Kellogg Avenue in Columbia-Tusculum, looking northwest from Carrel Street. It appears that Carrel is just to this side of the house at the top right. The CG&P appears to have built a new track to Kellogg south of Carrel since the track in the middle of the street was likely removed in 1922 with the rest of the IR&T. Similar to previous photos is what appears to be another right-of-way to the left of the tracks. Note the electric poles and street lights. The right-of-way for Kellogg was always rather wide, so it might be the case that the original road and the double tracks from the IR&T were between the two lines of electric poles. The way each row leans out is typical where span wires were used to suspend dual trolley wires. That said, the current street still only takes up about half of this width. The far left pole line would be well into private property today. Regardless, after the IR&T was abandoned the CG&P was able to assume their franchise agreement to use the street, but the tracks had already been removed and they had to build their own on a different alignment. These would then have to be moved again just three years later due to the street repaving.
