Mariemont's old steam heating plant along the former PRR/Little Miami, looking northwest from the railroad ROW. Built in 1924, this facility produced steam for heating most, if not all, the buildings in Mariemont. Deteriorating pipe insulation, cheap natural gas alternatives, and the decreasing popularity of steam for home heating led to the plant being closed in 1954. The chimney was removed at some point afterwards, and all the equipment was removed as well. The concrete structure at the bottom is a loading platform for rail cars to deliver coal to the plant. The building was demolished in late 2017 or early 2018 to provide additional building sites for the Mariemont Landing condo development.
