1948 USGS map showing the Wright-Lockland Highway/Mill Creek Expressway through the center of Lockland. Constructed in 1943, this is the current southbound portion of the I-75 Lockland Split, showing the current Reading/Lockland exit 12 and Wyoming Avenue overpass. Until the northbound lanes were rerouted to the east in 1964/65, the whole highway traversed this man-made canyon at the location of the Miami & Erie Canal. There were just 2 lanes in each direction, and probably little in the way of shoulders or a median. It probably looked a lot like Columbia Parkway between dead man's curve and Beechmont Avenue. Aside from being made southbound only and Patterson Street no longer intersecting the highway, this stretch of road today looks very much as it did during WWII.
