Measuring the CSR's broad gauge tracks on Adam's Crossing (formerly Martin Street) on the east end of downtown. The distance between the tracks (the gauge) in Cincinnati's system is 5'-2 1/2" as opposed to the standard railroad gauge of 4'-8 1/2" This gauge was chosen partly to keep railroads and later interurbans from using the street railway system.
