CL&A - Cincinnati, Lawrenceburg & Aurora Electric Street Railroad
0026_cla07b
Historic photo of the CL&A trestle over Muddy Creek, looking northeast. Note how the car in the distance is on a short steep section of track heading towards Main Street. That short stretch would be abandoned in 1902 in favor of a new private right-of-way behind the homes on Main, avoiding that short hill. Also note the dual overhead wiring. This is spaced much closer together than on the rest of the Cincinnati Street Railway, because it is not positive/neutral but positive/positive. Some interurbans did this to eliminate frogs and switches in the overhead wiring at turnouts and passing sidings, as well as to allow for directionality in their block signaling system.
From "Along the Line," a promotional booklet published by the CL&A, provided by Bill Van Doren.
