Southern Railway - Norfolk Southern, Central Division, Cincinnati New Orleans & Texas Pacific 1st District
0009_visit-Cincinnati24
Historic photo of Queensgate and northern Kentucky, looking west from Carew Tower. The B&O warehouse, now Longworth Hall, and the C&O viaduct are visible at left. The Cincinnati Southern Bridge is at the top, and the 8th Street Viaduct is at the far top right. The smokestack for the Hudepohl Brewing Company is visible just below the Cincinnati Southern Bridge. The single track on a grassy berm at the left center feeds into a small intermodal yard for the C&O on 4th Street (the UPS processing facility that remains to this day is directly to the left of there). Today it's an office building site, but the remnants of the connection to the main C&O viaduct still remains at 3rd and Gest Streets. Very few of the rest of these buildings remain today, as they were cleared out for industrial development and highway ramps. The huge tangle of ramps for I-75 and US-50 today occupies the entire bottom half of this photo.
